Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 22 May 2025– ISII GROUP has today announced Por un puñado de frases, a new production starring Jorge Sanz and directed by Alejandro Millán, currently filming entirely on the island of Gran Canaria.  The film is produced by Inefable Productions, an ISII GROUP company, with production services provided by SIA Servicios Audiovisuales.

A Western comedy penned by Alejandro Millán and Rubén del Pino, the story unfolds in a classic American frontier town during the kidnapping of Sheriff MacLein by two natives, Media Luna and Pluma Loca. A chain of unexpected events quickly reveals that nothing is quite as it seems.

Jorge Sanz, one of the most recognisable figures in Spanish cinema and television, takes on the role of Sheriff MacLein, adding a new chapter to a career that began in childhood with La miel (1979). He gained international attention with his role in Conan the Barbarian (1982). His filmography includes acclaimed titles such as Valentina, El año de las luces, Amantes, Belle Époque (Oscar winner), and La niña de tus ojos. Sanz was awarded the Goya for Best Actor for his performance in Si te dicen que caí and has worked with leading directors including Fernando Trueba and Vicente Aranda. Among his most distinctive projects is ¿Qué fue de Jorge Sanz? (2010), a series created by David Trueba in which he plays a version of himself with sharp wit and self-awareness.

Alejandro Millán, who directs the project, brings experience as both director and chief editor across various television programmes, drama series, and advertising campaigns. Over the past six years, he has worked as an editor for the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival, and between 2022 and 2024, he directed and edited several documentaries, including Islandia, El Poder de la Tierra, Borrados del Mapa, La Última Gran Colonia and El Último Volcán. Since August 2024, she has served as Head of the Short Film Department at SIA Servicios Audiovisuales. Alejandro Millán has also directed several ISII GROUP projects, including Las coordenadas exactas and Se alquila.

Millán explains: “In my previous short films, Se alquila and Las coordenadas exactas, I explored genres such as horror and sci-fi black comedy. This time, Rubén del Pino (co-writer) and I wanted to take on what we consider the purest cinematic genre: the western. But from the start, we knew we wouldn’t be making a traditional western. Our aim was to pay tribute to the most irreverent spaghetti westerns, injecting the story with unexpected twists, a hint of meta-cinema, and that punk edge we try to bring to all our work. The character of Sheriff MacLein was written specifically with Jorge Sanz in mind. Without him, this short film wouldn’t have made sense.” He adds: “It was a real pleasure for us to work with Jota Ramos and Iván Rodríguez, internationally recognised Canarian stunt performers, in key roles. Their passion for cinema constantly reminded us of the spirit that inspired this short film in the first place.»

Por un puñado de frases is produced by Inefable Productions, the company behind titles such as Normas para una página de sucesos, La farola del mar, Se alquila, Las coordenadas exactas, Cataratas, and Tal vez. The production is supported by SIA Servicios Audiovisuales, with Lydia Palencia as executive producer, Daniel González as director of photography, and Itahisa López as art director.

Por un puñado de frases will premiere soon on Divergente, ISII GROUP’s platform dedicated to content under 59 minutes.
