Inefable Productions (ISII Group) Begins Production on Restricted Area, the Feature Directorial Debut of Goya Award Winner Cristian Beteta

Inefable Productions (ISII Group) has begun filming Restricted Area, the feature-film directorial debut of Cristian Beteta, starring Milena Smit (Trinidad, Amarga Navidad), Roberto Álamo (Días de agosto, La gran familia española) and Irene Escolar (Las chicas están bien, Las abogadas). The cast also includes Diego Anido (La infiltrada), Eva Llorach (Quién te cantará) and Estefanía de los Santos (Enemigos).

With a budget of €4 million, the film will be shot over five weeks in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. Restricted Area is a realistic survival thriller with a Western atmosphere and elements of horror. Set in the 1980s, the film begins with a young woman disappearing in a remote, arid area after becoming stranded on the road. Her disappearance forces her sister into hostile territory to find her before it is too late.

In this setting, the locations play a key role as sources of constant pressure within the story. The arid landscape, the road, the mine and the silence shape every decision and progressively close in on the characters, pushing them to an extreme emotional and physical breaking point.

As part of the production, the crew held a press conference in Fuerteventura, one of the film’s key locations, where they shared some of the project’s main creative elements. Director and co-writer Cristian Beteta, who co-wrote the screenplay with Lara Stoop, said: “I’m very grateful that a production company chose to back a project like this. Having ISII Group believe in a genre film is a dream. And, on top of that, I have an incredible cast.”

Executive producer Lydia Palencia added: “Restricted Area is another example of ISII Group’s commitment to giving a voice to new talent. We fell in love with Cristian Beteta’s script as soon as it came to us. And his recent Goya Award for his short film Ángulo muerto reaffirmed that we had made the right decision.”

The cast also highlighted the project’s appeal. Milena Smit said: “I have a long track record in thrillers and horror, but this project has surprised me again. I’ve found places I hadn’t explored before. And I think Irene and I have created a very special relationship. I’m also very grateful to ISII Group; this is already the second film I’ve shot with the group.”

Roberto Álamo commented: “It’s not every day that you come across talent as extraordinary as Cristian’s. I predict this is going to be a great film.” Meanwhile, Irene Escolar said: “I think there is something about the atmosphere of this film that you don’t often see. Beyond the genre—the horror, the Western, the thriller—I think it’s going to be something very special atmospherically.”

With Restricted Area, ISII Group reinforces its growth and consolidation strategy in the fiction space, as part of a 2026 slate that includes the comedy Desde arriba and other projects to be announced soon. At the same time, the group continues to expand its presence in theaters with a selection of titles that combine genre, talent and international appeal: Tal vez, starring Adriana Ugarte and Tania Santana; Días de agosto, starring Maggie Civantos, Roberto Álamo, Pau Simon and Berta Galo; and Trinidad, starring Gabriela Andrada, Paz Vega and Karla Sofía Gascón, in her first project following the international success of Emilia Pérez.
