Gabriela Andrada, Paz Vega and Karla Sofía Gascón to lead cast of Trinidad, the first blockbuster from ISII Group

ISII GROUP today announced the start of production on Trinidad, its debut feature film, starring Gabriela Andrada (Pídeme lo que quieras), Paz Vega (Goya winner for Lucía y el sexo, Rita), and Karla Sofía Gascón, in her first role since leading Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, one of the standout titles of the recent awards season.

Set against the sweeping backdrop of the American West, this high-budget action-adventure, backed by over €14 million in funding, is created and directed by Laura Alvea (La mujer dormida, La chica de nieve) and José Ortuño (548 días: captada por una secta, Normas para una página de sucesos). Rounding out the ensemble cast are Milena Smit (Madres Paralelas, La chica de nieve), Sofía Allepuz (Rita), Guillermo Bedward (The Outlaws, Perverso), James Giblin (Way Down), Antonio Dechent (Cerrar los ojos, Smoking Room), and Alfonso Sánchez (El mundo es nuestro, Grupo 7), among others.

Synopsis

Set in the late 19th century, Trinidad follows a young Spanish woman named Trinidad (Gabriela Andrada) who arrives in the Wild West with her mother (Paz Vega) and sister (Sofía Allepuz), fleeing the justice that pursues her back home. Challenging the societal roles imposed on women at the time, Trinidad uncovers an innate talent for weaponry, a skill that enables her to provide for her family, but also draws the attention of enemies and prejudice, including the formidable widow Bronson (Karla Sofía Gascón). When the young gunslinger is falsely accused of a crime she didn’t commit, Trinidad is forced into life on the run, leading a gang of outlaws who join her in plotting revenge.

About the Directors

The film’s creators and directors, Laura Alvea and José Ortuño, bring a wealth of experience from across the entertainment industry. As a creative duo, they have co-directed the feature films Ánimas, The Extraordinary Tale of the Times Table, and the Prime Video documentary Fernando Torres, el último símbolo, while also distinguishing themselves individually through a range of solo projects. Alvea’s work includes the feature La mujer dormida and the Netflix series La chica de nieve, while Ortuño’s most notable credits include 548 días: captada por una secta (Disney+) and Normas para una página de sucesos, available on the Divergente platform. Ortuño has also penned screenplays for other directors, including Mamacruz, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, as well as the documentary series El estado contra Pablo Ibar and ¿Dónde está Marta? Alvea, meanwhile, has stood out as assistant director on acclaimed productions such as La trinchera infinita, Kiki, el amor se hace, and the hit series Arde Madrid.

Speaking about the project, Ortuño and Alvea said: “Filming Trinidad has surpassed all our expectations. Not only did we have the means, resources, and budget to bring this story to the screen exactly as we envisioned it, without compromise or cuts, but we also had the privilege of working with an outstanding technical and creative team. From what we consider one of the finest cinematographers in the country, David Azcano (La casa de papel, Sky Rojo), to production designer Alexis Santos Santana, who took on the monumental task of constructing more than 50 period sets with remarkable skill, and costume designer Deborah del Pino, with whom Ortuño previously collaborated on Normas para una página de sucesos. But above all, it is the cast, an extraordinary ensemble led by Paz Vega, Milena Smit, Gabriela Andrada, and Karla Sofía Gascón, that has taken the story to another level.”
