Belén Rueda and Asier Etxeandia Lead Cast of Amor de Dios, Paula Palacios’ Fiction Debut

The film, that has been shot in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Madrid and Paris, has been produced by ISII Group banner label Inefable Productions.

The principal photography of ‘Amor de Dios’, the fiction debut of the prestigious filmmaker Paula Palacios (‘Cartas mojadas’, ‘My brother Ali’), has recently finished. Headlined by Goya Award winner Belén Rueda alongside with twice Goya Awards nominated Asier Etxeandia (‘Pain and Glory’, ‘The Bride’), this drama based in a Carlos Saura’s original concept has been shot in locations at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Madrid and Paris.  French dancer Soleïla, Spanish Ballet Nacional first leading figure Irene Tena and the magnetic actress Tania Santana (‘Love in a tightrope’, ‘Upiro’), that is involved in several of the most awaited titles of the season, round out the cast.

According to the filmmaker, “the idea comes from an own passion. I’ve studied Spanish dance, flamenco and contemporary dance. Talking about this passion with a friend, he told me that Carlos Saura had written an script as a tribute to dance academy ‘Amor de Dios’ whose film he did not finally shoot. That’s how the adventure began. At the beginning, it was ment to be an script based in the maestro’s, but thanks to the Spanish Cinema Academy Residences program, I could set a distance from the original plot and work in mine, feeding the story with my memories, when I was learning to dance and also living in Paris for several years bringing that way that story to the present time”.

Executive producer Lydia Palencia adds regarding the main cast of the film that “to have leading figures of the national cinema scene has been a real luxury. The way they have approached their characters and do them their own letting them grow has convinced us that no one else would have perform Sara and Felipe so precisely. The chemistry between them both has been amazing and they have brought incredible realism to our protagonists”.

The film reads in a refreshing way Spanish folk combining Spanish flamenco, contemporary ballet and visual arts. The project has been selected at the Spanish Cinema Academy Residences program.
